Tracing memories

Used to trace faces
Glide softly across a cheek
Stop at the corner of a quivering
Lip and go further down
Being braver than
what the moment demanded

To trace
A softness felt
For the first time, the heat
Of skin
New to the touch

Used to caress
An outline of breasts through cloth
Wanting to explore
Admonished by a swipe of the hand.

Run through hair
Try to capture the smell and fail
Twirl a lock,
pull slightly.

Used to meet fingers
And stay.

Wishing for more
Being content and still

Now trace flat
Slabs of glass
Grappling with words
That refuse to come
On a bright screen and make sense
Of time.

Used to trace
A known face

Now rummage through
